Adventist Paulson Rehab Network: Services Description I

Acute Hospitalization

Patients admitted to the hospital due to medical instability or the need for surgery frequently require physical rehabilitation. Whether a patient has a need for intense physical, occupational or speech therapies due to stroke, or has short-term need for learning to walk with crutches following day surgery, the Adventist Paulson Rehab Network is here to meet their needs.

Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Program

Adventist Hinsdale Hospital's Opler Cancer Center now offers a post-surgical rehabilitation program for women who will be having or have already had surgery for breast cancer. The program will enable you to resume your usual activities and reduce the pain and stress of limited functioning as quickly as possible.

Rehabilitation therapists from the Adventist Paulson Rehab Network will work with you in a totally individualized outpatient program. Through a combination of occupational and physical therapy, we will help to restore not only your health, but independence as well.

Adventist Paulson Rehab Network has therapists trained to treat lymphedema, swelling of the post-surgical arm. Our therapists are trained in manual decompression treatment and bandaging. This is combined with an individualized exercise program.

We advise you to talk with your personal physician about how this program supports your post-surgical treatment plan. Most insurances cover this service if patients are referred by their physicians. For more information, contact Adventist Paulson Rehab, La Grange at (708) 246-8210.

Home-based Rehabilitation

Adventist Hinsdale Hospital's Adventist Health Care at Home provides the next level of patient rehabilitation in the Adventist Paulson Rehab Network. This service allows patients to continue care in the familiarity of their home environment with the carryover of treatment tasks into functional settings, as well as providing next steps in family and patient education.

Incontinence/Pelvic Muscle Dysfunction Treatment

Weakness of the pelvic floor muscles due to pregnancy, childbirth, surgery, or normal aging process can result in urine leakage. Once infection or other medical process is ruled out, these problems can be treated with physical therapy.

Physical therapy treatment is performed in a private treatment room. Biofeedback is used to assist the patient in locating and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. Patients have one session weekly and perform a Home Program three times a day. Education in lifestyle changes also contributes to the recovery process. Results can be seen in one to two weeks. Most patients require three to eight sessions until they are dry. For more information, contact Adventist Paulson Rehab - Willowbrook at (630) 856-8200.

Inpatient Rehabilitation

For those patients having a functional loss that requires more than one therapy per day and who can tolerate several hours of therapy sessions, admission to the Network's inpatient rehabilitation unit may be indicated. There they will find a fully accredited facility with services available around the clock. Tracking of increased independence is closely monitored from admission and throughout their stay to 90 days post-discharge, with therapy adjustments made accordingly.

Outpatient Rehabilitation

The Adventist Paulson Rehab Network offers outpatient rehabilitation care at convenient locations. The locations include Adventist Paulson Rehab Bolingbrook, Adventist Paulson Rehab Willowbrook and Adventist Paulson Rehab La Grange. Adventist Paulson Rehab offers extensive outpatient services including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Pediatric outpatient services are provided at Adventist Paulson Rehab Pediatrics by teams of pediatric therapists with special training in neurodevelopment.

Prenatal Exercise Pool Class (PEP)

Water provides the best support for exercise, decreasing the pressures of pregnancy. Conducted by licensed physical therapists, the PEP class is designed to maintain flexibility and muscle tone, increase posture awareness and lifting techniques, provide basic child birth information and create comaradrie. Classes meet twice weekly in the evening. Call (630) 856-8200 for times and session dates.

Support Groups

The Adventist Paulson Rehab Network sponsors a number of support groups-including the Stroke Club, Amputee Support Group, Fibromyalgia Support Group, Arthritis Pool Class and the Pediatric Rehab Lecture Series.
