Neuroradiology Technology
Adventist Hinsdale Hospital offers its newest service Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology in the Special Procedures room of the Radiology Department. Its angiographic unit is the first of its kind in the Chicago area and is necessary to perform advanced procedures in the field of Interventional Neuroradiology.Neuroradiologists play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of disorders. Among their diagnostic tools are:
Angiography
The angiographic unit is a GE Advantx LCN bi-plane imaging system using the most advanced technology to date for the diagnosis of cerebrovascular disease. Features include enhanced digital imaging, live simultaneous bi-plane road mapping and three-dimensional angiographic reconstructions, which allow visualization of the vascular system from any angle and virtual navigation within the blood vessels.Embolization
Embolization is a method of projecting small particles or glues to occlude abnormal blood vessels for the purpose of decreasing bleeding during surgery.Endovascular Therapy
A neurointerventionalist specializes in the diagnosis and endovascular treatment of cerebral, head, neck and spinal vascular lesions, neoplasias and other disorders. New procedures that are available include the endovascular treatment of cerebral aneurysms with coils, embolization of arteriovenous malformations and fistulas, carotid stenting and angioplasty, stroke therapy and prevention, vertebroplasty, as well as many other therapies. Endovascular therapy can be used in many conditions previously only treated through conventional surgery. Now it is safe to navigate cerebral arterial and venous vessels, enter aneurysms and place coils for their treatment and dilate spastic vessels, which is revolutionizing the treatment of aneurysms and subarachnoid hemorrhage. The endovascular procedures of Angioplasty, Stent Placement and Thrombolytic therapy of occluded vessels will be a significant advancement in the treatment of arteriosclerosis, ischemic disease and stroke.Cooperation between the neuroradiologist, neurosurgeon, anesthesiologist and ancillary services are a prerequisite in the proper management of the patient.
Radiosurgery
An innovative alternative to traditional surgery performed by Radiation Oncology in conjunction with a Neurosurgen. Radiosurgery delivers radiation therapy to the brain in a single session, using three-dimensional computer analysis to pinpoint the exact tumor site. A secondary benefit is minimized damage to surrounding healthy tissue.Adventist Hinsdale Hospital offers its newest service Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology in the Special Procedures room of the Radiology Department.
