Neurology: McCormick Alexander Pain Management Center
Everyone experiences pain at some time. When the pain doesn't go away or becomes so severe that it affects your everyday life, you need help.
Although your family physician is your first resource for managing your pain, some people benefit from referral to a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and care of painful conditions.
The McCormick-Alexander Pain Management Center can help you. Our goal for people suffering from acute or chronic pain is to:
- Determine the cause of your pain
- Relieve unnecessary suffering
- Restore function
- Reduce disability
- Make your life better
You will receive comprehensive pain management services from a caring and supportive interdisciplinary staff.
The McCormick-Alexander Pain Management Center had three clinical divisions:
- Acute Pain Service
- Inpatient Consultation Service
- Outpatient Pain Management Center
Acute Pain is intense pain that is short-term in nature. Examples include pain after surgery or an injury. Treatment is focused on providing the greatest amount of relief as quickly as possible while healing is taking place.
Chronic Pain can persist for months or even years, and includes back/neck pain, headaches, post-injury pain, and disease-related pain caused by diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, shingles, spinal stenosis or cancer. It is estimated that over 50 million Americans are affected by chronic pain.
We utilize a multidisciplinary staff of professionals, as needed, to develop and evaluate your individualized pain management plan of care. Your care is coordinated by our medical director and may include:
- Physician from a variety of specialties
- Registered nurses
- Physical therapists
- Occupational therapists
- Pharmacists
- Psychologists
- Social Work Services
- Home Health Care Services
The pain experience consists of both physical and psychological factors. The treatment plan emphasizes the responsibility of the patient family, working together with the staff, to achieve treatment goals. We provide your referring physician with progress reports to ensure continuity of care.
