Mental Health: Adult Outpatient Program at Hinsdale

Flexibility and individualized care characterize the Adult Outpatient Care program of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital's Behavioral Health Services. In fact, we call the programs OPTIONS: Out Patient Treatment Innovatively Offering a Network of Services.

OPTIONS offers a highly structured, cost-effective alternative to inpatient treatment. It also helps transition inpatients who are ready to move into outpatient care or is an alternative mode of treatment to prevent hospitalization.

Partial Hospitalization Program
The Partial Hospitalization Program enables patients to participate in a structured treatment program during the days (Monday through Friday 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.), then return home each evening.

Intensive Outpatient Program
The Intensive Outpatient Program gives patients the chance to participate in a structured treatment plan part-time while they transition back to home and work or other responsibilities. This program provides half-days of treatment, 3 times a week.

Both programs provide a full range of therapeutic services including case management, family meetings, group psychotherapy, occupational therapy, management of medications and symptoms, educational interactive groups. Treatment is designed to help patients improve self-awareness, build healthy relationships and promote independence. The goal is to enable patients to regain an independent level of functioning as quickly as possible.

Specialized treatment tracks within the two programs allow patients of different ages and skill levels to achieve specific goals and to work on personal issues such as aging, grief and loss, or substance abuse. Yet learning to interact within a community of people is an important part of the program that enables participants to successfully transition back to work, school and home life.

Care is collaborative. Our patients are members of the multidisciplinary team that assesses, plan treatment and sets goals.

OPTIONS is easily accessible. We see every new patient for assessment within a 24-hour period, whether they are coming to us from the Emergency Department, another facility or elective basis.

Once adults successfully complete their plan of care, they are invited to join an Aftercare Group that is provided free of charge for a limited time. The group meets weekly to help members prevent relapse and to ease the way back into home and community.
