Bariatric Surgery: Patient Requirements

Now that you have checked your BMI, you may be considered for Bariatric Surgery if your:

  • BMI is 40 or over
  • BMI is 35-40 and you have significant co-morbidity
  • Documented dietary attempts have been ineffective
  • Risk for generalized anesthesia is acceptable
  • Not planning on becoming pregnant within 2 years of surgery
  • Absent of drug or alcohol problems
  • Cause of obesity is not due to an endocrine problem
  • Dedication to life-style change and follow-up is understood
