Bariatric Surgery: Lifestyle Changes
Successful surgery requires that patients have a commitment to lifelong weight loss. This commitment means adhering to the following:
- Frequent follow ups with physicians and other personnel
- 1200 - 1500 kcal low fat, sugar diet
- 5 - 6 small meals per day
- Eating slowly, in small amounts, and with small amounts of non-sugared beverages
- Avoiding foods with more than 5 gms sugar per serving
- Daily exercise
- Daily vitamin and mineral supplements
- Stopping eating when satisfied or slightly full
Gastric Bypass surgery is a start. It is important to understand that commitment to lifestyle changes is necessary in order to achieve the goal of long term weight loss success.
