What Our Volunteers Are Saying...

"I feel it is an opportunity, and perhaps a calling, to be of service to God and His people. I have found that I am blessed. The patients and their family members have taught me about life and death, about faith and the importance of attitude and acceptance when facing serious illness. I have found that God's presence in the room gives us all a sense of peace. I consider it a great privilege and responsibility to be a volunteer in this hospital ministry."
Mary Potter - Volunteer Chaplain, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital

When I began volunteering as a chaplain, I didn't come with qualifications. I came with a willingness and desire to serve. I am continuously learning how to be a better listener of the heart. As patients go through the process of being treated for their physical needs, I enjoy being part of a team that focuses on meeting spiritual and emotional needs. Looking into the eyes of patients, I see children of a loving Heavenly Father, and I am available to be with them. As a child of His, it is my privilege to serve in this holistic ministry."
Susan Kamin - Volunteer Chaplain, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital

"As a Volunteer Chaplain I am privileged to be a physical expression of God's love to people who are in the hospital. With love in my heart and spirit I listen with empathy as people entrust me with their precious life stories, concerns frustrations, joys and hopes. People graciously allow me to be a part of their lives for a few brief moments of their lift journey. Through a smile, a touch, a look of compassion, and a prayer our spirits join. I often sense we are on holy ground as God's love fills the room. I am blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of this ministry. It has enriched my life immensely."
Pat Fiaccato - Volunteer Chaplain, Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital

"I feel privileged and honored by God to serve Him and His people along with the skilled and gifted staff at Adventist St. Thomas Hospice. I also appreciate the Adventist Midwest Health Midwest chaplaincy program that provides on-going training for me in my work. My fulfillment is met as I help my patients through their spiritual journey. When we pray together and I see the serenity in their faces it makes me realize that I do make a difference. I pray that God continues to use and guide me to bring peace and healing to patients and their families."
Jean Dressler - Volunteer Chaplain, Adventist St. Thomas Hospice

"Being a chaplain has given me an opportunity to serve Christ in the giving of my presence to those who are hurting or in need. It has strengthened my walk with Christ and has brought me closer to Him in ways I never could have imagined. As an incorrigible doer, it has been a recurring lesson to me that sometimes the best thing I can "do" for someone is just to "be" with them. I have received so much more from patients, staff, and visitors than I have given. I am truly blessed."
Bettie Mudd - Volunteer Chaplain, Adventist GlenOaks Hospital

"In as much as you have done it for one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it for me."
Matthew 25:40
