Therapeutic Day School: Programs

Aggression/Harassment/Bullying

This program uses visual, verbal, sensory, and written exercises that give students better ways to deal with their feelings of anger. It also encourages them to form more effective behavioral solutions.

The three-hour session will include:

  • Student participation agreement
  • What does anger mean to you?
  • Fighting feelings
  • Body language
  • Anger pyramids
  • Imaging
  • Relaxation
  • Empathy
  • Goal development
  • What is harassment?
  • Legal issues associated with harassment
  • Identifying underlying dynamics driving harassment
  • Identifying the impact harassment has on victims
  • Identifying alternative ways of expressing feelings

Alternative to Suspension

This program was developed in conjunction with area schools to provide an alternate to suspension for a student involved in an aggressive act, drug, and alcohol, or tobacco use.

All programs are taught by an experienced behavioral health professional from the Adventist GlenOaks Therapeutic Day School

Child/Adolescent Day Hospital

Day hospital programming in a less restrictive environment in lieu of inpatient hospitalization or as step-down from a hospital stay and includes the following:

  • Multi-disciplinary treatment team with physician involvement
  • Expressive therapy is an integral part of program
  • Accredited school on site with licensed teacher coordinating educational needs with home school
  • Substance abuse issues addressed
  • Individual, group, family therapies
  • Medication monitoring
  • Diagnostic track with psychological testing and other assessments

Drugs and Alcohol

This program will help students with decision-making skills regarding the use of substances.

The three-hour session will include:

  • Defining addiction
  • Self-assessment of risk factors
  • Signs and symptoms of use
  • Common risk factors
  • Consequence of use

Therapeutic Day Schools

Three schools dedicated to children and adolescents who fall under the labels of social emotional disorder, other health impaired secondary learning disabilities. The schools serve students in grades third through high school in fully accredited and Illinois State board approved settings designed to meet the educational needs of those whose emotional problems require individualized, comprehensive treatment. Admission to this program comes from referrals from a student's home school district or private pay options.

Parent Sessions — 6:30 to 7:30 (Parents are required to attend the parent session)
